The revamped Prophet 5 is also a killer update that sounds fantastic I stayed up way to late last night playing with the revamped CS80 V, and I a, blown away by it. I agree there is lots of uncharted waters in software emulations, having said that for me personally the CS80 is a dream synth I will never own, one that until now I have always found software emulations of to be lacking. I do notice that I end up in different territory when I work with a hardware synth vs. Unless you’re totally broke, I do suggest picking up at least one, if for just the experience of working with a physical interface. I won’t buy it, though, because that kind of instrument doesn’t work in my world, but I would appreciate it if Arturia brushed up it’s emulation to the point of quality that they did their new Prophet 5 emulation. I’m blown away by some of their inexpensive monophonic analogs, especially the 2600. I also believe that Behringer will eventually be releasing even more affordable options and it will be even easier to own something that’s pretty similar to the real deal. Besides, what else am I going to spend my money on? NFTs?! If not for the sound, for the general experience. I do think that $3,500 is too much for a Prophet 5r4, but I paid $1,600 for a Prophet 6 module, and I think it’s well worth it. If you’re playing a Depeche Mode song, you’re not going to notice, but sometimes I play music that’s sonically more extreme. That said, I do feel there is a bit of difference between actual analog and emulations, especially towards the edge cases. software, because the hardware is plain and simply unobtainable. For the vast majority of people, it’s not a choice to get hardware vs. CS-80s have fetched amounts that would get you a small car for a long time now. By definition, they’re not making any more Prophet 5 r2s anymore, so the price can only go up as the supply goes down and demand goes up. Spending less than $200 for the experience of a Prophet 5 makes way more sense financially than spending $3500 for a new hardware Prophet 5.True. Well for me they sound close enough, their GUI’s look and work like the hardware does and that is good enough for me. Yeah, I know, there are those who say oh these are just VST’s, they sound nothing like the hardware. Unaffordable and unobtainable synths for very littleĬost, comparatively speaking. Part of the attraction to software vintage synth emulations is that now we can afford to own all those “same old synths” were unaffordable for a lot of us I agree, and would add this…most of these
